Finnestad Ancestry

Here is the marriage application filed by my great great grandparents, Caroline Quitno and Ole Finnestad Jr. Here is the marriage license from the DeKalb County, Illinois clerk's office.

Marriage license announcement from the Sycamore True Republican October 7, 1885 edition for my great great grandparents, Caroline (Quitno) and Ole Finnestad (Jr). Caroline Quitno and Ole Finnestad (Jr) were married on September 12, 1885, a couple of weeks prior to this announcement in the local newspaper.

Here is a copy of the marriage certificate* for Ole and Mari Finnestad's great granddaughter, Maine Elizabeth Olson.   Maine married Clarence Ray Cannon in Rockford, Illinois on June 28, 1927. *Provided by Beverly Skog, great great granddaughter of Ole and Mari Finnestad.

Here is the marriage certificate for Ole and Mari Finnestad's granddaughter, Iverdena Vallem and Axel Thompson who were married in Chicago on August 28, 1911. Iverdena (Dena) was the daughter of Rachel (Finnestad) and Lewis Vallem.

On the August 23 and 24, 2010 entries, I provided documentation that the Finnestad family had used the name Oleson (Olson/Olsen) after arriving in America and had not yet adopted the last name Finnestad, based upon the farm Ole had owned in Norway. Below is another example.    Ole and Mari Finnestad's daughter, Rachel had used the last name "Olsen" when she was married in 1872 to Lewis Vallem in Ogle County, Illinois. After moving to the United States from Norway, it was some time during the 1880's  that the family had started to use the name "Finnestad".

I've had a bit of luck the past two days locating more descendants of Ole and Mari Finnestad's eldest daughter, Elizabeth. Here is a copy of the Cook County, Illinois marriage license for Elizabeth and Ole Andreas Knutson's daughter, Clara Dorthea. Clara married Edward H Nelson on December 29, 1891 in Chicago, Illinois.
