Finnestad Ancestry

I have completed cleaning up the family tree and added a final tab for Ole and Mari Finnestad's son, Rasmus. Six of Ole and Mari's eleven children produced the most descendants; the last 6 tabs include those six children and the two subsequent generations.  Here is a summary and links to the additional tabs: - Elizabeth Knutson - Iverdine (Dana) Travland - Rachel Vallem - Ole Finnestad (Jr) - Bert Finnestad - Rasmus Finnestad The family tree will always be available on the right hand margin for easy access. In the future, subsequent generations will be listed on a new spreadsheet to reduce any confusion.   The additional spreadsheets will be listed in the right hand margin below the original family tree.

Continuing to clean up my original spreadsheet, I added another tab on the family tree for Berthel (Bert), the 2nd son born to Ole and Mari Finnestad.

Today, I cleaned up the "Ole Finnestad" tab a bit on the family tree and added a tab for "Ole Finnestad (Jr)". I will be creating two additional tabs for the last of Ole and Mari Finnestad's children that had descendants: Bert and Rasmus. Hopefully there were no mistakes as I cut and pasted from one sheet to another.

Today I added another tab to the online Finnestad family tree spreadsheet for the 6th child born to Ole and Mari Finnestad: Rachel Marie Oleson Finnestad Vallem. Much like the tabs for Rachel's siblings, this one also includes the next two generations. You will notice that Rachel and her descendants seem to have contributed the most to the ever expanding Finnestad family. If anyone notices any spelling or other errors, please let me know.

Another tab added for the family tree of Ole and Mari Finnestad's daughter, Iverdine, the twin sister of Bertha.

Today I added a tab for the online family tree for Ole and Mari Finnestad's eldest daughter, Elizabeth, along with her portion of the next two generations of the family. I have been working on attempting to extend Elizabeth's descendants but have found it is quite a slow process. I have yet to find a surviving descendant of Elizabeth's to assist me in filling in the blanks.

Today I received in the mail a book from Carmen Hurd, the great-granddaughter of Ole Sr and Mari Finnestad, granddaughter of Rasmus and Kari Finnestad, and daughter of Olaf and Myrtle Finnestad. This book contains photos and helps complete the descendant information of Rasmus and brother Bert Finnestad. I will be updating the Finnestad family tree and adding information from the book in a sequential order. Until I find a software that will allow me to download the family tree onto this blog site, the following will serve as a preview. Previously I provided a list of Ole Olson Finnestad Sr's children. The 3rd known generation: Elizabeth Olson married O.A. Knutson. As of the 1910 US census, Elizabeth had 10 children but only 4 had survived. The only known child as of this writing was Edith Knutson. The other 3 I have been unable to locate. Ole Finnestad Jr married Caroline Quitno. They had 7 children: "Dina" Josephine, Oliver, Lettie Clara, Alice Marie, (Carrie) Eveyln, Lillian May and Frances Julia Finnestad. Bert Finnestad married Celia Goodmonson. They had 5 children: Oscar, George, Minerva (Minnie), Charlotte and Selma Bertha Finnestad. Rasmus Finnestad married Carrie Goodmonson (Celia's sister). They had 5 children: Mabel, Goodwin Cornel, Rose Clara and Olaf Finnestad. In regards to Ole and Mari's other children: Sarah (Serina), Iverdine, Bertha, Rakel Ma...

In Norway, the last name of the son of the father became "son" and the daughter of the father became "datter". For example, in our family, Ole Ols had a son Ole, who then became Ole Olson. Ole Ols had a daughter, Marie who became Marie Olsdatter. For more information on the Norwegian naming system, go to the following website: http://www.norwayheritage.com/norwegian-names.htm Ole Sr and Mari Olson had 11 children, though as of this writing, I have only been able to track down 10: Elizabeth, Sarah, Maria, Iverdine, Bertha, Rakel Marie, Ole Jr, Mary B, Bertel O, and Rasmus. Elizabeth, Sarah, Ole Jr, Mary B, Bertel O and Rasmus have been documented moving to the United States, along with their parents, Ole Sr and Mari. Maria died at the age of 3 in Norway. I have been unable to confirm whether Iverdine, Bertha and Rakel Marie left Norway. (For the record, Iverdine and Bertha were twins.)
