Finnestad Ancestry

Here is the 1926 Canada Census for Charlotte (Finnestad) Pearson, daughter of Celia (Derdall) and Rasmus Finnestad and granddaughter of Mari (Iversdatter) and Ole Finnestad. Living with Charlotte was her husband, Martin Oscar Pearson and their daughter, Selma in the municipality and village of Broderick (sub-district 80),  Long Lake (District 22), Saskatchewan province, Canada.     They are listed on lines 47 - 49. Charlotte married Martin Oscar Pearson, the husband of her cousin, Rose Clara Finnestad following the death of Rose in 1920. The 1926 census for Canada did not request information regarding employment.

Occasionally you are lucky enough to stumble upon a history of one of your ancestors. Ole and Mari Finnestad's 2nd and 3rd born sons, Bert and Rasmus Finnestad and their respective families had left Illinois and moved to Saskatchewan, Canada . (Rasmus had taken a detour to Iowa prior to moving to Canada.) I came across this biography* of Rasmus' daughter Rose Clara and Bert's daughter, Charlotte Finnestad from a Canadian website, "www.ourroots.ca". When I initially had found out Rose and Charlotte had married the same person, I wasn't sure whether it was accurate, but these types of biographies are helpful in explaining why the cousins married the same person. Here is the baptism record from Calvary Lutheran Church in Lee, Illinois for Marie Alice and Carrie Evelyn Finnestad, (#18 & #19) daughters of Ole and Caroline Finnestad, and Charlot Finnestad, daughter of Bert and Ceclia Finnestad. All three are the grandchildren of Ole and Mari Finnestad Sr. Marie Alice Finnestad was born June 24, 1893 and baptized June 20, 1897. Carrie Evelyn Finnestad was born September 1, 1896 and baptized June 20, 1897. Charlotte Finnestad was born February 12, 1898 and baptized April 10th, 1898.
