Perry Orlando, Lena Verdel and Lillian Rosabelle Vallem baptisms

The records from the Methodist Episcopal Church recorded Perry Orlando Vallem, his sister Lena Verdel Vallem and their cousin Lillian Rosabelle were baptized in Ogle county, Illinois on June 4, 1904. Their entries are located near the bottom of the page.

The baptism record indicates Perry's birthdate was February 19, 1904, Lena's birthdate was July 20, 1907 and Lillian's birthdate was February 2, 1911.

I do not know whether Lena's middle name was spelled 'Verdelle' or as in the baptism record, 'Verdel'.

The record indicates the baptisms took place in Ogle county, Illinois; I do not know where in Ogle county. Perhaps the reverend made house calls for baptisms. The Methodist Episcopal Church still stands today and is located at 507 Main Street, Steward, Lee county, Illinois. It is currently named the Steward United Methodist Church. Perry Orlando Vallem and Lena Verdel Vallem were the children of Lena (Travland) and Peter Vallem and the grandchildren of Rachel (Finnestad) and Lewis Vallem and the great grandchildren of Mari (Iversdatter Nord-Skaar) and Ole (Olson) Finnestad Sr.

Lillian Rosabelle Vallem was the first child born to Sophia (Halverson) and Ole Lewis Vallem, the grandaughter of Rachel (Finnestad) and Lewis Vallem and the great granddaughter of Mari (Iversdatter Nord-Skaar) and Ole (Olson) Finnestad Sr.

Ole Finnestad Jr obituary

Here is the obituary for my great, great grandfather, Ole Finnestad Jr from the Dixon Evening Telegraph of July 9, 1928. Note the misspelling of his first and last name, though Finnestad was spelled correctly within the content of the article. You will also note that his brother Rasmus had moved from Canada to Washington by the time of his brother's death. Oddly, there is no mention of the sisters that survived him, leading me to believe they may have lost touch by the time of his death.

Finnestad Farm - Stavanger, Norway

It was customary in Norway to take the farm name as the family name. Prior to arriving in America, Ole Finnestad was known as Ole Olson. According to the Regional State Archives of Stavanger, in 1862, Ole Olsen bought a farm from Bjørn Larsen.
